Forcing an Azure AD sync

Good day to you.

Today I want to talk about one small nuance of using Azure Active Directory together with on-premises Active Directory Domain Services - namely, synchronizing the two.

When you change objects in one of the Active Directories, the changes will sooner or later be synchronized to the other one. The problem is that sometimes you want "sooner" rather than "later".

What do you need to do to force a synchronization?

Fire up PowerShell and off we go:

Enter-PSSession -ComputerName %COMPUTERNAME%
Import-Module ADSync
Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Initial

or

Enter-PSSession -ComputerName %COMPUTERNAME%
Import-Module ADSync
Start-ADSyncSyncCycle -PolicyType Delta

Hooray! All done.
